Sustainability at Mantra Lorne

Here at Mantra Lorne we are committed to embedding sustainability into every facet of our daily operations. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey and are continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Below are some of the initiatives we have implemented to date.

Dry Amenities

We are delighted to share our ongoing commitment to reducing single-use plastics in our guest rooms. As part of this initiative, we have made a significant decision to eliminate single-use dry amenities, taking a bold step towards a plastic-free environment.

We understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. By removing single-use plastic amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, and shower caps from our guest rooms, we are significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Instead, guests can request dry amenities by calling room service or visiting our friendly team at reception.

Large Amenities

As part of our ongoing efforts, we have made the proactive decision to move to large format amenities, replacing our single-use plastic common amenities with eco-friendly pump dispensers throughout the hotel. By eliminating single-use plastic bottles, we are significantly reducing the amount of waste generated by our operations. This commitment aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship and reflects our ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in all aspects of our hotel.

Housekeeping and Cleaning

Mantra Lorne has a reduced cleaning schedule, instead of daily cleans the property elects to service rooms every 3 days. This reduces the impact to the environment with a reduction of water consumption and cleaning chemicals into the waste outlets. Mantra Lorne encourages guests to reuse towels where possible to further reduce the need to launder linen. All cleaning chemicals used within the property are eco-friendly solutions.

Food Waste

At Mantra Lorne, we are committed to reducing food wastage and promoting sustainable practices across our food and beverage outlets and conferencing department. We understand the importance of minimising our environmental impact while delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests.

  • Eliminating all single use plastic from operations & buy in bulk containers where possible.
  • Food waste strategies, recording and measuring the Hotels waste impact.
  • Menu design – Seasonal menus (Winter/Summer), local suppliers where possible and increased vegetarian cooking options.

 Community Support

We are committed to maintaining strong connections with our local community and give back wherever possible.

  • Volunteering with local Environmental groups with land care and tree planting.
  • Supporting local organisations and charity groups: RSL, Lorne Surf Life Saving Club and the Men’s Shed.
  • Supporting local fundraising for Lorne P-12 School, Aireys Inlet School, Tin Shed Good Friday Appeal, & Lorne Kindergarten.
  • Local sponsorship: Lorne Football & Netball Club, Lorne NYE Fireworks, Lorne Business and Tourism Association and Lorne Arts Association just to mention a few.
  • Recognition of the Local Custodians of the land, the Gunditjmara people, by holding local smoking ceremonies prior to events and Acknowledgement of Country implemented prior to official presentations.

Plant & Equipment

Mantra Lorne is actively looking to source more energy efficient equipment when major plant and equipment are replaced. We are currently working on switching over from Gas Pool heating to electrical heat pumps. Lighting around the resort has recently been upgraded to LED lighting to reduce energy consumption. Accommodation blocks are also under review to be upgraded to double glazing when the window replacement project commences in 2025.

Accessibility

Mantra Lorne is designed to best assist people with all accessibility limitations. Mobility is the most common and the Hotel provides ample designated parking spaces designed for easy and safe access to the property for people with limited mobility. We have accessible rooms located on the ground floor of our Heritage building, located nearest to reception and the car park. These rooms have been designed to cater for different needs with grab rails and sit-down aides in the bathroom. The doors and layout have been specially designed to makes access easier. Majority of rooms with showers over the bath have had grab rails installed to assist all guests with access in and out of the shower. In addition, we have portable assistant aides for hire, including portable shower chairs and walking aides.

Similar with common area amenities, an accessible restroom is designated in all areas for special access and aides. The property has compliant walkways and ramps to assist with movement around the property, with lifts in place where possible. Appropriate aides are in place for anyone with a visual impairment. While the property is not pet-friendly, concessions have been made for all assistance animals that guests need to travel with.
